The Merge was the joining of both the spiritual plane and the afterlife with the physical plane, bringing back dead spirits back down to the earth. This was due to a spell performed by Meredith Jackson piercing through the veil, which was the barrier between the two planes. This event was limited to just the town of Meadow Wood. Only those who had died in the town were brought back down.
